Barataria man gunned down
A 33-year-old man who was recently held and questioned over the murder of URP foreman Curtis Primus, was shot dead at Eighth Avenue in Barataria early yesterday. Primus was shot dead while with a group of URP workers at Barataria last Friday. Primus’ death was described as a revenge killing. Police reports revealed that around 7 am, Rafton Sorzano left his Second Street, West Barataria home telling relatives he would be back later. Minutes later, gunshots were heard in the vicinity of Upper Eighth Avenue in Barataria, and a man dressed in a white jersey and a three-quarter jeans was seen lying in a pool of blood.
Officers of the Barataria Police Station were alerted and a party of officers led by Snr Supt Bishop and including Insp Coa, Sgt Koon Koon, Cpl McMillan and District Medical Officer Dr Bouchay went to the scene. The body was ordered removed to the Forensic Science Centre, where an autopsy was performed. Sorzano died from shock and haemorrhage consistent with gunshot wounds. He also suffered a broken right arm.
Officers of the Homicide Bureau told Newsday that Sorzano was a suspect in several crimes including murder.
