Manning hails WI victory

Prime Minister Patrick Manning has hailed the West Indies cricket victory over England as an event to uplift the whole Caribbean region. He sent his congratulations to Trinidad from New York, where he was last night due to meet TT nationals in the “Big Apple.” In an obvious reference to the devastation caused by Hurricanes Ivan and Jeanne, Manning said the cricket victory has “elevated the hearts and spirits of all West Indians particularly in these trying times.”

Although our countries are small and face many obstacles, he said, yesterday’s sterling performance had shown that our talent is great. He praised the players for their “hard work, determination and unwavering perserverance.” Minister of Sport, Roger Boynes, agreed that the team was an inspiration to the entire Caribbean, especially in light of the disaster of the hurricanes.
