Kinesha wows them
THE Women’s Organisation for the Underprivileged (WOUP), in celebration of its 25th anniversary, hosted an afternoon of tea, fashion and entertainment entitled “Mariposa” at the ballroom of Hilton Trinidad and Conference Centre last Sunday. The ballroom was filled with a cross section of supporters doing their part to assist WOUP in its cause. The enthusiastic audience also showed their appreciation for the entertainment and fashion display.
Among the models were Miss TT Universe 2004 Cheryl Ankrah, Miss TT World 2004 Kinesha Thom and Miss TT Earth Jenna Marie Andre. Each delegate’s appearance on the runway was met with applause, but the moment Kinesha Thom made her way down, the volume increased... the pattern continued for the duration of the show. The fashion segment co-ordinated by Alyson Brown featured the works of Meiling, Simply Garnett, Zadd & Eastman, Lori de Jesus, Radical Designs, Heather Jones and Claudia Pegus. Entertainment was provided by saxophonist Francis Prime and vocalists Wendell Constantine and Wendy Sheppard. Over the years WOUP has provided financial aid and practical assistance including distributing food supplies, furniture, appliances, building supplies and linens to hundreds of individuals.
To mark its silver anniversary WOUP paid tribute to founding members Pamela Francis, Arlene Modell, Carol Percy, Myrnelle Akan, Betty De Gannes and Gail Weekes. Donations totalling $100,000 were also presented to seven non-profit organisations, including the Autistic Society of Trinidad & Tobago, the Cancer Society, The Credo Foundation for Justice, The Cyril Ross Nursery, Servol, The Shelter and Habitat for Humanity.
