Hundreds to benefit from surgery

HUNDREDS of persons, including underprivileged children, will benefit from a new series of surgeries which will commence next week with the return of Operation Rainbow to Trinidad and Tobago. Operation Rainbow will be sending a team of doctors and other medical specialists to TT from November 13 to 21 to conduct plastic and cosmetic surgery on approximately 200 persons — at least 98 percent of them are children. The team will begin screenings at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex and the operations will be undertaken there at no cost to the patients.

Operation Rainbow first sent a medical team to TT in June to perform orthopaedic surgeries on underprivileged children. Approximately, 124 children were screened and 38 procedures were performed. The medical team due in TT on Saturday will comprise 14 persons and assistance will be provided by local doctors. Additional Operation Rainbow teams will be coming to TT in January to treat persons on the waiting list for scoliosis and in April-May for follow-up and additional orthopaedic procedures.
