Cops dish out 415 traffic tickets
A massive traffic exercise over the weekend resulted in 415 persons being issued with tickets for various traffic violations. Speedsters collected 165 tickets, while 250 others were given tickets for a variety of other traffic offences. In Port-of-Spain 119 tickets were issued, 56 in the North, 57 in Central and 103 in South. The exercise was coordinated by ACP Mobile Nazamul Hosein and led by ASP Bernard and Inspector Maxime. Last week, 312 vehicles were wrecked resulting in fines amounting to over $31,000.
ACP Hosein said yesterday the traffic exercises were intended to ensure that motorists adhere to traffic regulations. He said since the introduction of the speed traps, motorists have started to take the necessary precautions. ACP Hosein said more exercises were planned in a bid to restore safety in the roadways and also to encourage road traffic safety among drivers. Coupled with that, traffic officers are also carrying out thorough searches of vehicles during the exercises.
