An autopsy on murdered Carrera prisoner Ian Allen’s body revealed that death was due to ligature strangulation/drowning. The autopsy was carried out by forensic pathologist Dr Hughvon Des Vignes. Yesterday, police investigators told Newsday they suspect that Allen was killed at the Carrera Island Prison, and his body dumped in the sea. They added that based on the findings of the autopsy, the killer first attempted to strangle Allen. Additional tests also revealed that the stone used by the killer to tie around Allen’s arm was an attempt to ensure that his body did not float after it was dumped in the sea. Allen is believed to have been barely alive when he was thrown into the sea and drowned. Prisons Commissioner Carlos Mc Honey said an investigation has been launched into the murder.
However, he made it clear that it was now a police matter. Yesterday, homicide officers re-turned to the Carrera Island Prison where they interviewed several prisoners. The shirt found on Allen’s body belonged to another prisoner. That prisoner was questioned yesterday. Investigators believe that Allen was killed at Carrera early Monday. Allen, 30, was noticed missing on Monday after routine checks were made. His picture was circulated to the media and Allen was described as “armed and dangerous.” The Princes Town man, who was serving eight years hard labour for killing his 97-year-old grandfather Lionel Allen, was scheduled to be released in March next year. Kenneth Allen, the dead man’s brother, is calling for a thorough investigation into the killing, and is also pleading with the authorities to release the body into his care for a proper funeral. He also feels that his brother was killed at Carrera.
