Spring Village labourer fatally knocked down
A man who police and eyewitnesses described as being in “high spirits” became this nation’s latest road fatality when he walked into the path of a moving vehicle. According to police reports, around 1.10 am yesterday Salina Khan was proceeding across the Churchill Roosevelt Highway in the vicinity of Kay Donna Drive-In when she came into contact with Den Jagdeo, 42, of Bassie Street Extension, Spring Village, Valsayn.
Jagdeo, a labourer, was thrown several feet into the air and died instantly. DMO Dr Vinod Mahabir visited the scene and ordered the body removed to the Forensic Science Centre for an autopsy tomorrow. Eyewitnesses and the driver told police “one minute the man was standing, next minute he walked in front of the vehicle.” When Sunday Newsday visited the family’s Bassie Street home they refused to comment but residents confirmed Jagdeo was a heavy drinker and was minutes before drinking at a bar in the community. Ag Cpl Gosien is continuing inquiries.
