Pundit ‘Dan’ had a vision of Brian’s rescue

The Hindu priest (pundit) who accurately predicted that three-year-old Brian Bedase would be released between Wednesday night and Thursday morning, said yesterday that he was able to do so through faith, prayers, consultation with a holy book and a vision. On Thursday morning, when Brian Bedase of Tacarigua was rescued by the police, Pundit Nandram “Dan” Maharaj thanked the Almighty, and renewed his faith in Hinduism by special prayers to the Hindu god Lord Shiva and goddess Mother Durga.

Maharaj said that when Brian was kidnapped on Monday night, it brought tears to his eyes, and he made it his duty to consult with the (jyotish) a Hindu holy book, which is able to accurately reveal anything about a person’s life. In Hinduism the procedure is known as “reading the Patra.” A pundit is able to forsee the future of a person and to find out if he will be faced with difficulties or danger. Special prayers can be recited to prevent that danger. According to the much sought after pundit, on Tuesday, he sat with Brian’s mother Yasmin and he used the Jyotish to find out about the child’s future. The now relieved Pundit “Dan,” as he is known, said he received a vision while praying with Yasmin that Brian was being kept in a house close to Tacarigua.

The vision also revealed that Brian was safe, his life was not in any danger and he was supposed to be rescued between Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. Pundit “Dan” said he told Brian’s mother about his vision and that gave her the courage and hope that her son would be reunited with her. Yasmin, a devout Hindu, was ecstatic on learning of the vision and maintained her composure, while waiting to be reunited with her son. She lit deyas in front of the pictures of the Hindu gods and recited special prayers as instructed by Pundit “Dan.” The pundit himself recited his own special mantras and performed Hindu rituals to speed up the process of ensuring that the kidnapped child was rescued. He has known Brian since he was a baby and played with the child recently when his parents held a puja (prayer meeting) at their home for Divali.

“Brian is dear to me and since I am the pundit who carried out the puja at his home, it was my duty to use my spirituality to assist the child,” said a happy Pundit “Dan.” A special purification prayer is planned for Brian to protect him from future harm. According to the pundit, faith in God is very important at a time like this. He said people have been placing more faith in humans rather than God, and this needs to change. He is calling on citizens, regardless of which religion they follow, to renew their faith in God.

He feels this will greatly assist in reducing the spiralling crime rate in the country.  Yesterday, Brian spent the day at home playing with his brother Jason. His mother told Newsday that Brian has been asking her questions — if she cried when the men took him away, or if she missed him. The relieved mother said she is just happy to have her baby back home and thanked the police for their support and thorough investigation in the matter. The three suspects in the kidnappingwere placed on identification parade yesterday.
