Board of Directors for new RHA named

Instruments of appointment were yesterday presented to the new Board of Directors of the North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA). Newsday learnt the instruments were presented by Health Minister John Rahael at the ministry. The Board comprises Chairman John Eckstein; Deputy Chairman Phyllis Pitt-Miller, Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of the West Indies; Rolly Kissoon; Gemma Chu Him, former corporate secretary, TT Electricity Commission; Unanan Persad, former United National Congress treasurer; Kaisha Ince, head of legal services, Water and Sewerage Authority; Molly Wheeler (nurse representative) and a Local Government representative.


A Ministry of Health representative is yet to be appointed. The NCRHA will have the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Caura Hospital, Arima District Hospital and Chaguanas Health Facility under its management. These facilities were formerly under the North West RHA. The NCRHA is expected to head the ministry’s kidney transplant programme and establish a dedicated eye-surgical theatre and cardiac surgery unit at the EWMSC. It will also oversee relocation of the Mount Hope Women’s Hospital into EWMSC, and construction of the National Oncology Centre, also at Mt Hope.
