Newsday reporter robbed at gunpoint
A freelance reporter with Newsday, Ralph Banwarie, was held up at gunpoint on Tuesday night and robbed of his Sunny B-15 car, registration number PBS 8046. Banwarie was visiting a friend at Young Pow Avenue in Maraval around 8.30 pm, when, as he attempted to get out of his car, he felt something cold and hard pressed into the back of his neck.
He was ordered out of his vehicle, while a second man, also wielding a firearm, instructed him to hand over his wallet, which contained $400, his identification card and driving permit. Banwarie said that after handing over his wallet, one of the gunmen tried to shoot him, but the gun failed to fire. He was then told to lie on the ground as the two bandits got into his car and drove off, narrowly missing him lying on the roadway. A report was made to the St Clair Police Station and investigations are continuing.
