Archbishop stays mum
ROMAN Catholic Archbishop, Edward Gilbert, was staying silent in response to recent statements by Prime Minister Patrick Manning that the country’s next archbishop should be a national of Trinidad and Tobago. The United States-born Gilbert delivered the sermon at midnight mass at the Church of the Assumption in Maraval, standing in for Rev Fr Garfield Rochard who was ill. But Gilbert did not speak about the controversy to the congregation, and instead delivered a theological message urging people to have peace in their hearts this Christmas in order to know the love of Jesus Christ. After the mass, Sunday Newsday approached Gilbert, but he declined to comment.
