Shemar coming for Charity Golf Classic

Soap star and heart throb of The Young and Restless “Malcolm Winters” (Shemar Moore), will be in Trinidad for IslandEvents Carnival Charity Golf Classic 2005. The tournament will be held in conjunction with The Tobago House of Assembly at the Tobago Plantations Beach and Golf Resort from February 9-12, 2005. The four-day event, which follows on the heels of Carnival, is tightly packed with professional golfers, local and international celebrities and a whirlwind of social activity. The weekend includes golf clinics for kids and fun competitions on the driving range, practice greens, live entertainment and jot events every evening such as the Welcome Cocktail Reception, a Charity Auction Show and a spectacular Gala Award function followed by an exciting after party.

The Classic was borne out of the desire to aid local charities while simultaneously drawing international attention to Trinidad and Tobago by creating high quality, high profile social events unlike any other on the regional calendar. Proceeds from the 2005 event will go towards the Hibiscus Tree Foundation, a local charity founded to assist children living with HIV/AIDS. Last year’s tournament saw a turnout of both regional and international celebrities including Hollywood stars Gabrielle Union and Dorien Wilson as well as MTV VJ, Ananda Lewis, who teamed up with local stars Brian Lara, Ian Bishop, Desmond Haynes and Richard Smith. Emmy Award winner Shemar plays the younger brother of Newman Enterprises executive, Neil Winters on The Young and Restless. The 34-year-old is the recipient of five NAACP awards to date. His modelling career landed him in some of the most popular magazines including Gentlemen’s Quarterly (GQ) and Mademoiselle. He has also appeared in commercials for Levi Jeans, Mc Donald’s, Miller Beer, and Colter Clothes.

He has made numerous appearances on television shows such as Moesha, Chicago Hope, The Nanny, The Jamie Fox Show and Living Single and starred in his first feature film (2001) opposite Morris Chestnut in The Brothers. In 2001, he also toured for ten months in the hit play The Fabric of a Man — a gospel musical and comedy, with Joshua King as lead role. In 2004, Shemar starred in the movie Motive alongside actress Vivica A Fox and in 2005, Shemar will once again grace the big screen in the Tyler Perry hit play turned movie Diary of a Mad Black Woman in which he will portray the character, Orlando. In addition to Y&R, Shemar was also the host of television’s longest running syndicated show Soul Train and ended his tenure in the fall of 2003. In the fall of 2002, he was seen on the WB Station in a series called Birds of Prey, portraying Detective “Jesse Reese”. This lead to Shemar’s recent campaign with an “Old Navy” TV commercial, a parody of Soul Train called the “Cargo Train”.

Shemar was born on April 20, 1970. He is 6ft 1”, single and resides in Los Angeles. He admires Carl Lewis and Maurice Greene, no doubt for their speed, and his favourite actor is Denzel Washington. His favourite song is Donny Hathaway’s “I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know” and favourite dish is a four-piece chicken plate with two waffles and a side of rice and gravy, cornbread, and macaroni and cheese. Shemar likes holidaying in Hawaii, playing baseball, working out, and baking chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies.
