UNC: Panday is our leader

THE OPPOSITION UNC yesterday dismissed a report alleging that there were rumblings within its ranks and said those reports were nothing but “political mischief sown to weaken UNC activists and bolster a PNM regime that is floundering from one bad decision to another and from one mistake to another.” In a statement, UNC chairman Wade Mark declared that there was absolutely no truth to the reports and it appeared to be designed “to create mischief and confusion in the minds of our friends and supporters.” Mark said Basdeo Panday remains the UNC’s political leader and any report of his resignation is “mere speculation.” He also indicated that all UNC MPs stand solidly behind Panday and firmly believe that the party can form the Government of Trinidad and Tobago again.

The UNC chairman added that the PNM would use its operatives to plant false stories about the party and had done so on previous occasions. Mark declared, “The UNC is united, cohesive and focused on the common objective to do whatever we can to expose the non-performance, inefficiency, discrimination, and wastage. The UNC had been faithful to this objective under its dynamic and astute leader, Mr Basdeo Panday.”
