‘Fake’ kidnap victim charged with wasting police time

A MT HOPE youth who reported being kidnapped on Boxing Day but later changed his story to police, will appear before a Tunapuna magistrate today charged with wasteful employment of police time. According to reports, around 9 am yesterday, the teen who lives in National Avenue, Mt Hope walked into the St Joseph Police Station and reported being kidnapped  around 2 pm on Boxing Day while walking near the Mt Hope Basketball Court. He claimed he was placed in a car trunk.

He also reported that two days later, he managed to escape from the car-trunk and found himself in the Maracas Bay area where he then made his way to the station. He also pointed to two red marks on his chest which he claimed were the result of a beating he received from his abductors. His worried father had reported the teen missing. However when questioned further by police, the “kidnap” victim admitted he went by a friend, got “tipsy” and  was so  frightened to return home in that state that he decided to spend the weekend with his friend.
