Detective dies in police station
SOUTHERN Division police were plunged into mourning yesterday when one of their colleagues — a constable with 13 years experience — collapsed suddenly and died while on duty at the San Fernando CID. Shocked officers told Newsday it is believed detective Constable Don Hamilton, 32, suffered a massive heart attack and died at the CID office around 1.30 pm. Hamilton was stationed at Princes Town CID and had just completed attending a court matter at San Fernando Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning.
According to police reports, around midday PC Hamilton walked into the San Fernando CID shortly after the case hearing. A report stated that around 1.30 pm, Hamilton complained to a detective that he was feeling pains in the chest. Minutes later he collapsed on the floor. Hamilton was rushed to the nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead by doctors at the Accident and Emergency Department. A post mortem is expected to be carried out at the San Fernando mortuary.
