Triveni band leader robbed of vehicle and box of KFC
VIRENDRA PERSAD, leader of the JMC Triveni, was held up at gunpoint and robbed of his Wingroad station wagon, a wallet and a snack box of KFC on Monday night. Persad told Newsday that he was at FM Studios at Mohammedville, El Socorro, arranging music when he decided to leave for a short while to purchase KFC. He added that on his return around 10.10 pm, he alighted from the wagon, placed two boxes of KFC on a wall and was about to retrieve a third box from the back seat, when he was confronted by a masked gunman. Persad told Newsday that the gunman pointed the weapon at him and demanded the keys for the vehicle.
The 37-year-old father of two, who lives near the Barataria Police Station, revealed that he gave the man the keys and was then ordered to lie on the ground where he was searched. The gunman asked him if he had a gun and he replied no. The bandit then attempted to start the vehicle but failed. Persad told Newsday that he told the bandit to press the unlock button which he did and then the gunman sped away. The vehicle is valued at $45,000. A report was made to the Barataria Police Station. Persad’s wallet with his ID was also stolen. He told Newsday that the robbery left him a bit shaken up and he is now forced to make alternative arrangements to move around for the hectic Carnival season. JMC Triveni is one of the East Indian crossover bands.
