Boogsie collapses again

PANNIST Len “Boogsie” Sharpe collapsed just after midnight on Friday, while sitting in a chair at the pan tent of Petrotrin Phase 11 Pan Groove, at Woodbrook. Sharpe told Sunday Newsday he was sitting while conducting rehearsals for the panside, when he suffered a blackout and fell. He said he recovered shortly and returned to his St James home. Yesterday, Sharpe, a diabetic, was treated by Dr Hart at the West Shore Medical at Cocorite, for a high blood sugar level. He was advised to eat three meals a day with only two snacks allowed and his medication was also altered.

Sharpe said he was ordered to take immediate bed rest but he expects to be back on his feet by tomorrow. Last night he was at the Laventille Serenaders Pan Tent preparing them for the single pan bands competition last night. Sharpe said while he is concerned about his health, nothing is going to stop him from winning the National Panorama title this year. Last Sunday, Sharpe collapsed soon after Phase 11 performed his composition, “Trini Gone Wild”, at the National Panorama semi-finals. On that occasion, he claimed he had not eaten and an adrenaline rush caused him to collapse. He was treated at hospital for heat exhaustion.
