Dad of five killed in crash

A TWO-CAR collision on the Solomon Hochoy Highway on Monday night has left a father of five dead and six other persons injured and hospitalised. Lincoln Dasrath, 44, of Esperance Village, Diamond Village, San Fernando, reportedly died on arrival at the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) after the accident. Police said that around 10.45 pm, Carder was proceeding south along the highway in his silver Honda Civic, with five other occupants. On reaching about 400 metres after the Claxton Bay Flyover, police said, Carder swerved his vehicle to avoid colliding with a car which drifted into his (Carder’s) lane.

Police said a red Nissan Primera driven by Dasrath slammed into Carder’s vehicle, causing both cars to run off the road and overturn several times before landing in a ditch at the side of the highway. Mason, who was a front seat passenger in Dasrath’s car, as well as the occupants of Carder’s vehicle, were taken to hospital in EHS ambulances. The injured persons who remain warded at SFGH are: Kerry Mason, 39, of Diamond Village; Dale Carder, 34, of Techier Village, Point Fortin; Paulene Cornelius, 33, of Belmont; Rasheed Mohammed, 33, of Princes Town; Kaffee Alexander, 25, of Guapo and Dean Charles, 64, also of Guapo.

PC Boodram of the Couva Police Station is continuing investigations. Dasrath’s mother, Dolsie, told Newsday the deceased was her last son and was very much loved by her and the rest of the family. Dasrath was a father of five children. “I don’t know how I will live without him. He used to call me his Queen,” Dolsie sobbed.
