Saith: Check me in two months about NCCTV
MINISTER of Public Administration, Dr Lenny Saith, said that although Carnival is over, the National Carnival Commission (NCC) still has two months left to keep broadcasting on Channel Four of the defunct National Broadcasting Network (NBN). In response to Newsday’s query on the future of Channel Four, Saith reminded that the Government had signed an MOU with NCC to operate Channel Four for some three months, of which only one month had so far gone. “So check me in two months,” he quipped.
Newsday asked if there had been any developments in the objection by Siparia MP, Kamla Persad-Bissessar — that broadcasting the NCC was outside its powers as laid down in the Act of Parliament which had established it. Alluding to the fact NCCTV broadcasts had not been interrupted, Saith asked: “Have you heard anything of her filing an injunction?” Saith was asked if it was ethical for the NCC to be allowed to continue broadcasting despite the fact that Carnival was now over? Saith replied: “It depends on what they are broadcasting. I am sure there are a lot of post-Carnival activities, and a lot of archival material that people tell me they are enjoying.”
