Woman’s hand severed in cutlass attack
A Diego Martin woman whose right hand was severed in a cutlass attack on Saturday, remains in serious condition at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, even after doctors re-attached the hand. Marsha Edwards, 25, of Richplain Road, Diego Martin, was walking along Unity Road in Diego Martin around 9 am, when a man asked her if she saw someone walking in the direction from which she came. She replied “No,” and the man then pulled out a cutlass and chopped off her right hand.
He then ran away. Edwards managed to alert the driver of a taxi and asked to be taken to the West End Police Station. She told police about the attack and was given ice for her severed hand, and rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery. Yesterday, Edwards was interviewed at hospital by acting Sgt Ajith Persad of the St Clair Police Station. The woman said she did not recognise her attacker. However, checks with the West End police revealed that an arrest was imminent.
