Claudia’s couture

FOLLOWING her successful showing at the Caribbean Fashion Week 2005 Claudia Pegus took a well-earned restful vacation in Jamaica.

Claudia’s fourth showing at CAW was well-received and praised for its uniqueness at the showing. She opened on the final night for the first time and it was also the night that Cedilla Marley (Bob Marley’s daughter) did her hot line "Catch a Fire." Both collections were received with standing ovations.

Claudia’s designs consisted of clean, classic lines, presented in ultra modern, ultra feminine creations. Her semi-casual line included slim-fitting skirts, and dresses in strong hues of red. The reds were actually strawberry and rust, embellished with brightly coloured beads and flowers of various shades. The exquisitely sensual evening wear in deep rich hues, fizzled on the Pulse models. When it was her turn to walk the runway, Claudia was greeted with thunderous applause and a standing ovation.

Claudia was interviewed by Jamaican TV fashion reporter Kimberly Mays over the unique difference between her collection and most of what was shown. The collection showed a complete line of clothing with a wide range of styles from casual to couture, from the young funky to the classy nature, international chic and avant garde coture. Most designers were either casual or resort.

In a report in the Jamaica Observer of June 19, Nokia McDonald-White stated that "Claudia Pegus who has had yet another triumphant year in fashion, receiving rave reviews at shows in Miami and Venezuela, used her knowledge of the female form to show a range of sensuality. Raw sex appeal came with form fitting hem lines, further taunted with ribbon and organza. And sophisticated sexuality showed with fifties fishtail glam and silk-tailored coatdresses worn with elegant trousers. It was a collection that was not only ready for immediate wardrobe placement, but one to which we can all relate. Ensembles were deftly paired with (slinky) shoes and (cutting edge) handbags."

Caribbean Fashion Week ended with its traditional cap-off party; this year’s celebratory reception was the Smirnoff party where signature pieces from each of the top designers were presented in a Grand Finale. The teasers for Claudia, and among her favourite pieces, were her two black femme fatale gowns, which were chosen for the finale. Chatting with Jamaican designer Baggy after the show, Claudia could not help but laugh in satisfaction when Biggy said "Claudia, all woman like to play dey self, young or old, and yuh play them too de hilt."

To Claudia when dressing a woman, age is just a number; it is the woman inside that brings the garment alive!
