Dining with the Saints

PAST students of St Mary’s College (CIC), their families and friends turned out in their large numbers on Saturday night in support of the college’s annual fund-raiser dinner, "Dining with the Saints."

The culinary exposition hosted by the past students attracted well over 1,200 people who all sat down to sumptuous dishes prepared by as many as 80 cooks on the night.

The event is used to assist the college in raising funds, and this year its specific purpose was for the construction of a new sixth form wing.

As usual, a host of prominent CIC past students came out to show off their kitchen talent, with some interesting choices of names for their dishes. Principal Fr Ron Mendes had a particularly long name to go with his dish — "Chinee chicken, it ent sour it sweet too bad."

Some of the cooks included Larry Howai, Colm Imbert, Ken Butcher, Lawrence Aqui, Stephen Bayne, Lawford Duprey, Michael Callender, Martin George, Brian Hewitt, Ainsworth Mohammed, Nicky Inniss, Brian Weekes, Roderick Ward, Richard Joseph, Nestor Lambert and a large contingent of CIC teachers, headed by Mendes and included Rudy Balwant, Roxanne Boodan, Jerome Haqq, Rosanna Poon Kumar and Nicole Gomes.

For the first time this year "old boys" from rival college QRC and Fatima donned aprons to take part in the event. This group was headed by Waz Hosein.

Entertainment for the evening came from Excellent Stores Silver Stars, Louis and the Lynx and DJ Crosby Sounds.

Four lucky patrons received door prizes which ranged from airline tickets to brunches. Those people were Brent Kelshall, Anthony Sinanan, Carlos Landeau and Dexter Skeene.
