Emmanuel Community celebrated in mass

ROMAN CATHOLIC Archbishop Edward Gilbert was the chief celebrant at a Mass at the St Theresa’s Church on Monday commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Emmanuel Community.

The religious community, which has been at the forefront of this country’s pro-life movement, also celebrated its second anniversary as an association of Christ’s faithful. Its motto is "In defence of life; from conception to a natural death."

Founded in 1984 by Fr George Pritchet, Violet D’Ornellas and Joan Blanc, the Emmanuel Community was incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1987 and currently has more than 74 members. According to officials of the group, which is based at Rosalino Street, Woodbrook, the Emmanuel Community has been serving Trinidad and Tobago for the past two decades "through spiritual and temporal works of mercy," offering a range of services to "those who continually come in with spiritual or material needs."
