Husband stabbed to death
A young bride was plunged into mourning early yesterday, when her husband of three months succumbed to a stab wound to the heart. The killing of Chrispin James pushed the murder toll to 206 persons killed for the year. The MovieTowne cafeteria worker was stabbed during an argument with a man at Prince Street, Port-of-Spain, about 3 am yesterday. He was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital but died from a ruptured artery in his heart. His wife Natasha, 24, was in a state of shock over the murder. The grieving woman told Newsday that the death came so suddenly that she still could not believe that her husband was dead. At the Bagatelle home of the deceased in Diego Martin yesterday, Natasha said Chrispin was invited to a family lime at Prince Street, Port-of-Spain. They were all enjoying themselves early yesterday, when a man at the lime began cursing and behaving in an aggressive manner. She said Chrispin spoke to the man about his behaviour, but he continued cursing and issuing threats. According to Natasha, Chrispin and the man began to argue and he (the man) pulled out a knife. Chrispin was stabbed in the chest. Natasha said Chrispin began to clutch his chest and complain of pain. "When the blood began oozing, I tried to stop the blood from flowing but it kept flowing profusely, so we called for an EHS ambulance," said the grieving widow. She said when relatives realised that the ambulance was taking too long to arrive, a bleeding Chrispin was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. About 8 am, Natasha was called to a room at the hospital and told that Chrispin had died. "I just could not believe it," said the woman. She said life has dealt her a cruel blow and she is now unsure of how to deal with the situation. The victim’s mother Marilyn and members of his family were in a state of shock over the killing. Police have detained a 34-year-old suspect in connection with the murder. A blood stained knife was also seized. A party of officers led by Snr Sups Leon Anthony, Errol Denoon and others visited the scene. Cpl Charles of the Besson Street Police Station is investigating.
