Tobago gives Stevie Wonder thumbs up
THE three-day Tobago Gourmet Jazz Festival ended on a high note on Sunday when internationally acclaimed American music icon Stevie Wonder brought the curtains down on the event with some of his more popular renditions. The massive crowd was disappointed with the news that Natalie Cole, who performed on Friday and was supposed to deliver her musical repertoire on Sunday, had left the country for other international engagements. However, Stevie Wonder used all of his legendary talent and showmanship to quickly hold court, and the crowd soon forgot their disappointment with Cole’s absence. THA officials said the three-day event was a success despite several delays by performing acts which led to a late start on Saturday. In all, locals and tourists were treated to an eclectic mix of popular pop music, reggae and classical jazz as major artistes such as India Arie, Stevie Wonder, Baby Face, Natalie Cole, The O’Jays, Shaggy and Trinidad and Tobago’s own Machel Montano, performed over the three-day event.
