Alana's sexy new look
THIS WEEK we feature the makeover of one of People Magazine’s loyal readers Alana Gayatrie Singh. She wrote telling us why she needed a makeover. Here is her story: "I recently wrote CXC examinations in the Business Studies area and I am currently awaiting results. During my study period all of my time was spent studying for exams leaving little time for me to keep myself looking good. I also have pimples and marks on my skin and have tried everything to remove them from my skin but nothing really works for me and my hair is in a total mess. I hope you find my application of interest and choose me for a fabulous makeover." We invited Alana, who is from Princes Town, for a fantastic makeover. Here is how she was transformed from schoolgirl to sophisticated lady. Hair makeover Hair stylist Ashvin Bally decided to highlight Alana’s hair at the crown using golden highlights to create the look. Since she had a natural dark base, he wanted to create texture and movement with highlights. He also considered that since she was just out of school, this new look would give her confidence to pursue her advanced studies. The asymmetrical length on the right side of her hair adds drama to the typical bob and the disconnected pieces to help add further interest. Make up transformation Step 1: Clean-up brows Alana usually waxes her eyebrows but they were in need of a clean-up. The stray hairs were tweezed to give her a clean brow shape to bring out her seductive eyes. Step 2: Skin care Alana has combination skin which tends to break out. Her skin was toned with a low alcohol toner to help control the oiliness. An oil absorbing moisturiser was then used to nourish her skin, whilst controlling facial oil. Her lips were then moisturised to prepare for lipstick application later on. Step 3: foundation Alana has rich warm yellow undertones and two foundations, honey and topaz were tested along her jaw-line and neck to determine the perfect shade. The honey was too light for her complexion — the topaz was a perfect match. Her foundation was applied using a latex wedge evenly over her face. A light concealer was then used around the eyes to reduce the shadows and bring her eyes out. Step 4: Setting the canvas Her foundation and concealer around the eyes were then set with loose powder. Step 5: The eyes Her eyes were deep set, since they had a pronounced crease with a very visible lid. Alana is lucky to have this kind of eye, since the drama and character of deep set-eyes is already there. These mysterious eyes were made the focal point of her face by using a palette of rich colours. First, the entire eye area was covered with a rich gold. Her under brow area was highlighted with a mix of light pink and iridescent lilac. A bright fuchsia was then used on the eyelid. Finally, the crease of her eye was accented with a combination of navy and purple. Her eyes were then lined with navy liner to complement the eye shadow palette. Step 6: The eyebrows A mid-tone brown pencil was used sparingly to define the brows. The brows were then brushed to blend the pencil wax seamlessly into the brow hair for a finished look. Step 7: Blush A bright pink blush was then used to add a youthful vitality to her look and highlight her cheekbones. Step 8: Lips Alana’s lips were lined using a violet lip pencil close to the lipstick shade to bring out her small lips. An iridescent coral pink lipstick was then used first to make her small lips appear fuller and a sheer berry lipstick was then applied over the lips to add warmth to her look. Step 9: The final touch Alana’s eyelashes were without a natural curl and grew straight out, so her eyelashes were first curled to open up her eyes. Two coats of mascara — navy and then midnight black and she is ready to take on the world! Alana’s reaction: "I looked great! When I got home everyone was shocked at how glamorous I looked. I felt like a different person." Alana’s boyfriend, Rydell: Alana’s boyfriend Rydell was with her through her exciting journey. He said that he was very excited by the whole process and could not wait to see how Alana would look at the end of her makeover. In his words, "She looks sexier and I can definitely see more of her features now, like her eyes and eyebrows." Rydell also noticed that Alana, who is very shy, was now smiling constantly and has a new sense of confidence. Photography: Shaffie Mohammed.
