Video footage IDs cop killers
Police officers investigating the shooting death of PC Casrajh Mansingh outside Swamber’s Inn at Enterprise Village, Chaguanas, last Friday, have seized two tapes from video surveillance cameras which captured the killers in the act. The tapes are now in the possession of Homicide officers and were viewed on Sunday night at the audio visual room at the old Police Headquarters under the supervision of Insp Young and Sgt Boxhill who are leading a team of investigators. Yesterday, officers involved in the investigation into the killing sought technical assistance to make the footage of the killers more visible. Once this is done, investigators believe they will be able to distribute the photos to all police stations so that the suspects could be identified and arrested. Senior officers confirmed that the tapes have already assisted them in finding out exactly what transpired on Friday night. The suspects are believed to be from Laventille, but have been hiding out in the Enterprise area. Newsday learnt that the two surveillance cameras were outfitted by the owners of Swamber’s Inn as a security measure. The cameras captured the activities both inside and outside of Swamber’s Inn on Friday night. The killers also shot WPC Pearl Gomez in the back before escaping. Reports revealed that Mansingh, Gomez and Percell were on patrol at 10.15 pm, when they responded to a report of suspicious activity at Swamber’s Inn. Mansingh, who was not wearing a bulletproof vest, was shot twice in the chest when he entered the building. The killer then stood over him and fired two more shots to ensure he was dead. Gomez was shot twice while Percell was unharmed. Minutes after the killing, officers of the Special Anti-crime Unit used helicopters to comb several parts of Enterprise Village in search of the killers. Mansingh will be cremated tomorrow after a funeral service starting at 10 am. He will be accorded full military rites.
