PTSC gets 25 new buses
The Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) yesterday commissioned 25 new air-conditioned international cosmopolitan buses at the PTSC compound. The buses, with a seating capacity of 49 persons each, were purchased from the International Truck and Engine Corporation in Mexico. They will be operated along the East/West corridor and the North/South main trunk line to San Fernando, inclusive of Chaguanas. Some of the main features of the "luxury" buses include reclining seats and DVD and radio systems similar to those on modern aircraft. Twelve of the buses are fitted with equipment making them accessible to persons with disabilities. Each bus can facilitate three wheelchairs in areas which allow them to be securely fastened with safety belts. "It is really our objective to restrict platform waiting time for service to a maximum of 20 minutes," said PTSC Chief Executive Officer, Edison Isaac. He said, however, that such an objective would require a bus output of at least 250 units per day. Also attending the event were Minister of Works and Transport, Colm Imbert, and George Daniel, Disabled People’s International president.
