$1 million for officers killed while on duty

Barataria/San Juan MP Fuad Khan has called on Government to provide insurance coverage for all policemen, enabling the dependents of those who die in the line of duty to receive $1 million.

The insurance will also cover those who are injured while on duty. The MP stated that insurance premiums were beyond the reach of many officers. But, with a collaborative effort between the insurance industry and Government, officers would be in a position to afford such a policy. Saying that this insurance scheme can become an "effective component in the battle against crime," Khan stated, "This is one way forward towards demanding improved performance within the protective services.

"These brave men and women must be comforted by the fact that in the performance of their duty to the nation, their interest and the interests of their families are protected in times of trauma," Khan said in the release. He said while the protective services must be given the necessary tools to do their job, greater attention must be paid to the psyche of those who risk their lives every day in order to provide for the safety of all citizens.
