Man killed over card game
A DISPUTE over a card game ended tragically on Friday night with the stabbing death of a man who tried to break up the game. Romin Jarvis, 29, was killed in front of his home at Cocoyea Village, San Fernando. At about 9.15 pm Friday night, Jarvis, a father of one, parked in front his home at Grange Road. Some men were playing cards in front of the gate. Jarvis asked the men to move from in front of his home to allow him to drive into the garage. An argument ensued and when Jarvis emerged from his vehicle, a B15 Sentra, he got into a struggle with a 19-year-old man and was stabbed several times. Jarvis left the scene, walked into the downstairs apartment where he and his common-law wife lived and collapsed in the kitchen. He was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police said preliminary investigations revealed that Jarvis was stabbed in the neck and chest. When Sunday Newsday visited his home yesterday, Jarvis’ mother, Anesta, 70, recalled hearing loud voices. She said she left her bed and went outside to investigate. "My son told me who stabbed him. I tried to save him, but could not," the grief stricken woman said. She said she placed pieces of cloth on her son’s wounds, but could not stop the bleeding. "I knew my son would not have made it. He was bleeding too heavily," she said. Homicide detectives (South) have launched a manhunt for a 19-year-old suspect who fled the scene on foot.
