Man burnt to death in house fire

A WALLERFIELD Gardens resident perished in a fire which occurred at about 2.30 am yesterday.

The victim’s name was given as Rabindranath Singh, 43.

Family members who live a few yards away said they awoke yesterday morning to the neighbour’s shouts of fire.

One person said the first set of flames was noticed at about 2.30 am.

Cause of fire is unknown.

The area does not have an electricity supply and according to reports Singh’s relatives said he usually used candles in the house.

It is understood that the morning was very windy, fanning the flames and resulting in the swift burning of the building.

A family member said by the time firefighters arrived, the building was already engulfed in flames. They said there was little they could do to save it from being destroyed.

Singh was reportedly ill and it is believed this slowed his movement in trying to escape.

Singh was the father of two children aged nine and seven.
