NOW CONDENSED MILK SHORTAGE

The ponche de cr?me that you had planned to make this weekend will have to be put on hold for a while yet, as the Supermarket Association of Trinidad and Tobago (SATT) yesterday stated there was a temporary shortage of Nestle condensed milk.

According to the association’s president, Heeranand Maharaj, tins of the Christmas staple are not on supermarket shelves. However, he said that supplies are expected by early next week. Maharaj told Newsday that there was no need to panic as other brands of condensed milk, such as Anna and Lucky Cow, are still on the market.

One Nestle spokesperson said the company was unaware of a condensed milk shortage and would conduct an investigation. On SATT’s website, it was also revealed that prices of powdered milk had also increased, following on the heels of the July 28 announcement that the price of ghee had gone up. There was one bit of good news, however, as SATT said that contrary to popular belief, turkey will be available this Christmas season.

SATT said the Ministry of Agriculture had given the assurance that importation of poultry from the United States would continue.

In addition to the chicken, ham or even duck, Trinbagonians will be able to have their typical turkey feasts for Christmas.
