Pricesmart suspects to face 50 charges

The three men who allegedly robbed Price Smart’s Foreshore branch last Thursday were slapped with 50 robbery-related charges yesterday.

The charges were laid by Sgt Henry Dan of the St James Police Station.

The three men — aged 19, 21 and 41 — from Tunapuna, Arima and Laventille, will appear before a Port-of-Spain magistrate today. The suspects were arrested early Friday morning when an employee who was being held hostage inside Price Smart used a cell phone to alert the police that a robbery was in progress.

A large contingent of police officers responded and, within eight minutes, surrounded the area and entered through a back door.

They were greeted by three bandits, one armed with a gun who was packing VCRs into a bag. Another bag with cash totalling $250,000, which had been taken earlier from a vault inside Price Smart, was also seized.

Officers took control of the situation and quickly nabbed the three suspects.

All of the cash, valuables and items stolen from employees were recovered.

The suspects were kept over the weekend at the St James Police Station and charged yesterday.
