Mystery crash in Diego Martin
Senior police officers have called for a full-scale investigation into why an accident which left two people injured and a huge pile up of traffic was not reported to the West End Police Station on Monday afternoon. Two persons were injured as a result of a two-vehicle collision at the corner of Sierra Leone Road and the Diego Martin Highway on Monday night. Reports from the Four Roads Fire Station revealed that two vehicles were travelling along the Diego Martin Highway at 6 pm, when on reaching the Sierra Leone Road, the driver of a car lost control, ran off the road, flipped over, crashed into another car and landed on the hood. The names of the injured drivers were given to fire officers. Both men were rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where they were treated and discharged. The accident was not reported at the West End Police Station or at Four Roads. Senior police officers at both West End and Four Roads were unable to say why the accident was not reported. An eyewitness to the accident told Newsday that a man was lying motionless in the middle of the road. Traffic was diverted, but the scene was clear within an hour. Motorists were not allowed to stop to see the accident. Despite the presence of several police officers at the scene, no report of the accident was entered into the station diary at the West End Police Station. Even the two vehicles in the crash were not towed to the West End or Four Roads Police Stations. Senior officers told Newsday that it was peculiar that no report was lodged at the station about the accident and the matter is being investigated.
