Fire destroys Vessigny school
A fire of unknown origin completely demolished the old Vessigny Government Second-ary School, Vessigny Village on Friday evening. At approximately 7.30 pm, an MTS security officer on duty at the school, which was being used as a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) centre, noticed smoke emanating from the main administration building. He immediately alerted the Point Fortin Fire Station but the firefighters were unable to save the buildings, as the wooden structures were well alight by the time they arrived at the scene. A CCC official said the fire would not adversely affect the 106 trainees who used the buildings as they were due to receive on-the-job training from Monday.
