Mom in hospital after chopping in Chaguanas

A Lopinot mother of three, who was saved from possible death by neighbours, is now warded at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital after being viciously attacked and chopped by a man she knew.

According to reports, Glenda Salina, 43, was leaving her daughter’s home at Stacy Penco Street, Londenville, at 5 am for work in Belmont, when she was attacked by a cutlass-wielding man who chopped her about the head and hand.

Her right wrist was partially severed and the woman lost a finger in the attack.

Police seized a clock which they believed the attacker used to time Salina’s arrival.

The bleeding woman was rushed to the Chaguanas District Hospital and then transferred to the PoSGH where she is warded at the Intensive Care Unit in a critical condition.

Later, police went to a house at Cemetery Street, Lopinot, where they found the woman’s former lover frothing at the mouth. He was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex and is warded at the Intensive Care Unit.

Police also seized a bottle with a poisonous liquid at the Lopinot home and two bottles with liquid from the chopping scene.

Clarena Edwards, who runs a mini-mart with her husband Clifford Cummings near the crime scene, said they rushed outside when they heard screaming and pulled the bleeding woman to safety, while the attacker ran away.

She also confirmed that they had seen a man hiding and stalking the woman a number of times.

They said one day he sat in the shop and related his side of the story.

Visiting the scene were Insp Stephen Ramsubhag, Cpl Brandon John and PC Michael Caliste.

Insp Ramsubhag is investigating the chopping, while Cpl Samuel of the Arouca police is investigating the attempted suicide.
