Teen in court for cop’s murder

AN 18-YEAR-OLD youth of Enterprise Village, Chaguanas, yesterday reappeared before a Chaguanas magistrate, charged with the murder of Police Constable Casrajh Mansingh.

He was also charged with the attempted murder of Mansingh’s female colleague — WPC Pearl Gomez.

Mansingh, 49, of Rivulet Road, Couva, was shot dead two weeks ago while he and Gomez were responding to a robbery. The woman police officer was wounded in the attack which occurred outside Swamber’s Inn and Jackie’s Bar, Enterprise Village, Chaguanas, at 10 pm.

Yesterday, Morikson Alexander, of Enterprise Street, Chaguanas, was taken before senior Magistrate Nanette Forde-John.

He was not called on to plead on the charge that he murdered Mansingh.

The second charge alleged that he attempted to murder Gomez, who was shot in the lower back.

Alexander, who was charged by Insp Fitzgerald George of the Homicide Bureau (South), was also not called on to plead to the attempted murder charge.

Alexander, who first appeared on both charges on November 24, was not represented by an attorney yesterday, and Forde-John postponed the matter to December 14.
