Cops seize $6M in pure cocaine
MORVANT police believe they have made a dent in the crime wave in the area with the seizure of pure cocaine with an estimated street value of $6 million, 469 rounds of assorted ammunition, and four teargas canisters. According to reports, officers of the Morvant CID and North-eastern Division Task Force raided a house at Mon Repos at 5 pm on Tuesday. The team of officers, under Insp Hilaire, had the Mon Repos house under surveillance for the last three weeks. The cocaine, weighing 13 kilogrammes and which can fetch more than $40 million when cut and packaged, is believed to have been in transit for its preparation. The ammunition and canisters were for protection against rival gangs and drug lords. Senior officers told Newsday that this is part of their attack on crime in the area. They said it is an ongoing exercise and thanked the community minded citizens who supplied information that led to the seizure. Meanwhile, St Joseph police are investigating a robbery at Valpark Shopping Plaza at 8 pm on Tuesday night, in which an armed man announced a hold-up at Dairy Bar and walked away with $800.
