Kidnap suspect in court today
THE MAIN suspect in the Jade Solis kidnapping is expected to appear before a Sangre Grande magistrate today charged with the offence. The 32-year-old man who was arrested with three other men last Thursday night is expected to appear on several charges including robbery and kidnapping. The four suspects were held in the Toco Forest by officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad who received a tip off. Several pieces of evidence including a cutlass, a 9 mm pistol and the $21,000 ransom demand were also allegedly seized by the officers at a house in the area. Solis, 21, was kidnapped last Saturday night while having dinner with friends and relatives in Toco. A cutlass wielding man robbed her relatives of cash and other valuables before fleeing the scene with Solis. On Monday afternoon Solis was allowed to speak with relatives. The kidnapper then demanded a US $1 million for Solis’ safe return. He was reportedly paid $21,000 and Solis was released on Tuesday. Investigations are continuing.
