Cop testifies in Bakr case


The preliminary inquiry against leader of the Jamaat Al Muslimeen, Yasin Abu Bakr, continued yesterday at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court, and heard evidence from complainant, Insp Christopher Holder.


Holder, who laid the charges against Bakr, was led in evidence by prosecution attorney Dana Seetahal, and questioned in his cross-examination by Bakr’s attorney Pamela Elder, SC.


Earlier in the proceedings, PC Andy Morris of the police Audio Visual Unit gave evidence and was also led in evidence by attorney Seetahal and cross-examined by Elder.


Bakr is charged with unlawfully inciting persons to commit a breach of the peace, uttering a seditious speech, demanding properties with menaces or by force, unlawfully inciting persons and terrorism. The offences are alleged to have taken place during the Eid celebrations at the Jamaat Mosque in Mucurapo on November 4.


Hearing was adjourned to Monday.
