Nigel was strangled and stabbed

NIGEL ALLEN, 32, of Cocoyea, was strangled and stabbed to death before being buried in a shallow grave in a canefield in Claxton Bay. The cause of Allen’s death was revealed in an autopsy which was performed on the decomposed body at the Forensic Sciences Centre in Port-of-Spain on Tuesday. The autopsy, which was performed by senior pathologist Dr Hughvon des Vignes, also revealed that Allen had been stabbed four times in the chest. According to relatives Allen, of Simpson Brown Terrace, disappeared on December 7 when he left his home to meet a man named Nigel “Cat” Roderique at Diamond Village, Claxton Bay. According to a police report, Allen failed to return home but his black B-13 Nissan Sentra was found near the Forres Park dumpsite at Claxton Bay. On Monday night, detectives were led to a shallow grave in a Claxton Bay canefield where the officers made the gruesome discovery.

However, Allen’s disappearance became more of a mystery when it was reported to the police that Roderique was also missing. A police report stated that Roderique left home on December 8 with $13,000 in cash. Roderique’s common-law-wife, Denise Phillip, told police that both Roderique and Allen were friends. Last Friday at 2 am, the report stated, a party of policemen found Roderique tied up at the side of the road at Ibis Gardens, Kelly Village, Caroni. Since then, Roderique and a 24-year-old man have been detained by detectives of the Homicide Division (South). No charges had been laid against either of the men up to yesterday. Investigations are continuing.
