Busy year in Parliament
APART FROM the passage of the Bail Amendment Bill 2005 in both Houses of Parliament, 2005 could arguably be regarded as a very productive year for the Government in terms of its legislative agenda. Out of 31 bills which were laid in Parliament by the Government for the year, 27 have been passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate and assented to by President George Maxwell Richards.
Among the legislation included in this category are the Anti-Terrorism Act 2005, Caricom-Costa Rica Free Trade Act 2005, Food and Drugs Amendment Act 2005, Caribbean Court of Justice Act 2005 and the Offences Against the Person (Amendment) (Harassment) Act 2005. The Lower House and the Senate have adjourned for Christmas and parliamentary sittings are expected to resume sometime in the second to third week in January.
