Shoppers flock to ‘Boxing Week’ sales
Christmas has come and gone and the yuletide sales that only last week lured throngs of Trinbagonians into the city for their Christmas shopping have been replaced by big, Boxing Day blowout sales, where the deals are reportedly even better, and the crowds are even bigger. Toys were being advertised at ten percent off; shoes at 15 percent off and even Christmas decorations, for as much as 50 percent off. From shoe stores to jewelry stores, clothing stores to bookstores, shop-owners everywhere have reduced prices and are sweetening deals as they attempt to offload their Christmas goods, for a tidy profit. The prices were so low that one shopper commented, “At these prices, I could have just waited to buy my gifts and decorations after Christmas and everybody would have gotten their things for New Years.” Another said, “They really know how to make a profit on our heads boy, but still, I’m going to stock up. These prices are really good!”
