Murder victim buried in wrong hole
MURDERED Cocoyea Village mechanic Nigel Allen, whose decomposed body was dug up from a shallow grave in Claxton Bay last night, was buried for a third time yesterday. The San Fernando City Corporation yesterday exhumed Allen's body from the Roodal Cemetery and buried it in an adjacent plot. The exhumation was done after it was discovered that Allen's body had been buried in the wrong plot. The event, witnessed by Allen's relatives, evoked memories of his brutal slaying on December 9 after he disappeared with another man — his namesake — Nigel Roderique, alias "Cat" Two men have been arrested and charged with Allen's murder. They will reappear in the Couva Magistrates’ Court next week Monday. Allen, of Simpson Brown Terrace, was buried on December 23 after a funeral service held at the Lady of Perpetual Help RC Church, Harris Promenade, San Fernando. San Fernando Mayor Ian Atherly yesterday said he witnessed the exhumation of Allen's body at 9 am. The mayor told Newsday that the corporation dug the plot for Allen's grave as requested by relatives. However, Atherly said while corporation employees were checking burial records sometime last week, it was discovered that Allen's sister had been buried in the same plot. Under the tragic circumstances in which Allen met his death, Atherly said he moved quickly to ensure that Allen's body was immediately placed in its rightful resting place. "The family was informed and we made the statutory declarations and informed the police. Everything was complied with under the law," Atherly said. At 9 am yesterday, the body was exhumed. Atherly witnessed the removal of the casket which was then placed in a grave dug next to the original one. Relatives offered a prayer while the casket was being lowered.
