Car slams into tree — driver miraculously lives
Ryan Bahadoor-singh, 31, from Lange Park, Chaguanas, suffered broken bones following an accident on the Beetham Highway, yesterday. This accident caused a massive pile up of traffic for hours after the accident. Still shaken some two hours after the accident, eyewitness Grantley Auguste, who was heading west for the cremation of his mother in St James following a church service in Santa Cruz told Sunday Newsday that he suddenly saw Bahadoorsingh on his right also heading west, lose control of his car, hit the median on the Beetham Highway, skated across to the left of the highway just barely missing him (Auguste) by no more than a second, hit a concrete slab at the left side of the highway then flew up into a tree just under the NP overpass in Sea Lots. Also witnessing the accident were, two off duty paramedics who were driving by. They immediately ran to assist Bahadoorsingh, and within minutes, the Wrightson Road Fire Station responded to the call. However the fire fighters were unable to pull Bahadoorsingh out of the wreckage, until an hour after when they used the Jaws of Life, and a chainsaw to cut through the mangled vehicle. Soon as Bahadoorsingh was freed, the large crowd that gathered at the scene of the accident, applauded the firemen. He was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he is listed to be in critical condition.
