Imbert promises end to South traffic woes

WORKS and Transport Minister Colm Imbert yesterday toured several areas in San Fernando in a bid to alleviate traffic woes and drainage problems in the city.

The minister’s first stop was the Tarouba Link Road.

After assessing the traffic flow into San Fernando, Imbert announced that motorists would soon be able to make a right-turn into Marabella from the direction of the San Fernando Technical Institute. Imbert also spoke of proposed plans to add two lanes on the San Fernando By-pass, towards Marabella.

He said that the widening of the road would ease the congestion of early-morning traffic.

Imbert said that in order to solve long-term traffic woes along the By-pass, a roundabout would have to be built near the Tarouba Link Road.

The minister’s next stop was at the San Fernando Licensing Office. Imbert also said that there was need to re-open the weighing bridge in the area to avoid heavy vehicles driving along the Cross Crossing intersection.

Accompanying the minister on the tour were San Fernando Mayor Ian Atherly, City Engineer Ramesh Sookdeo, Director of Highways Roger Ganesh, and several city corporation councillors.
