Masqueraders injured in crash
Five people, on their way to play mas in Port-of-Spain yesterday, suffered serious injuries when a car travelling in an easterly direction along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway, crashed into their car heading into Port-of-Spain at about 11.30 am. Police reports revealed that five masqueraders were in the car heading into Port-of-Spain, when the other car heading east with two occupants, in the vicinity of the Aranjuez traffic lights, crossed the highway and crashed into the vehicle with the masqueraders. Army officers on their way to Port-of-Spain, who witnessed the crash, went to the assistance of the injured. The occupants of the car were removed from the wreckage and placed at the side of the roadway. Grimacing in pain, the seven injured complained about feeling pain in their heads and throughout their bodies. As blood oozed from the faces of the injured, soldiers took on a different role by comforting them, wiping away the blood and urging them to have faith. The seven were then transported to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in the trays of police vehicles. Late yesterday two of the seven were moved to Port-of-Spain General Hospital. PC Cielto of the Barataria Police Station is investigating.
