Bowen holds court for ‘Artist Talk’

This senior local painter launched his exhibition entitled “9x52” in the InterAmericas space on February 16.

The gallery is open Wednesdays and Fridays 12 am to 5 pm, Thursday, 12 am to 8 pm, and Saturday 10 am to 5 pm. This exhibition continues until April 15, at CCA, Building 7 Fernandes Industrial Centre, Eastern Main Road, Laventille.

Bowen’s recent works mark the end of a creative process that has spanned the last 20 years. He has exhibited widely, both locally and internationally, operating from his studio at 25 Sydenham Avenue, St Ann’s.

This collection of paintings (acrylic on canvas) predominantly illustrates Eddie’s exercises in drawing and painting over an extended period of time, as his career as an artist is primarily shaped by these two processes as well as with teaching.

Bowen said that drawing, colour and an exploration of visual structure, are the defining characteristics of this series.

He said it’s “a deliberate fusion of these attitudes in painting, issues extended from previous formats and investigations in studio and working in and with urban and rural environments in this locale.”

“The works explore and stretch techniques in acrylics. The attempt is to find a new visual metaphor, or to break new ground in the articulation of the landscape,” Bowen said.
