Bomb Squad retain bpTT trophy
Led by an impressive all-round display from star player Nicola Cabrera, Bomb Squad, double champions in 2005, defeated Newlands/Guayaguayare United and Maintenance United for the women’s title in a three-way play-off.
With play suspended in the late hours of Sunday night, the semi-finals in the men’s division will now be contested today
Defending champions Grand Lagoon United will come up against HydroTech Strikers, while 2005 runners-up Delta Force will play Trinrico Sports in the other semi-final.
The final will be contested immediately after the “semis.”
The tournament, in its fifth year, is organised by the Mayaro/Guayaguayare Unemployed Organisation and Concerned Citizens.
President Matthew Pierre praised energy company bpTT for its continuing support of the tournament, noting that it brought the Mayaro community closer together. BpTT’s Steve Bayne said the energy company, whose home community is Mayaro, was proud to partner with the organisation in a wholesome sporting activity that has excited the entire region.
“We are happy to be part of this initiative which bring the whole community, young and old, together,” he added.
Earlier, participating teams, resplendent in their uniforms, paraded to the music of the Mayaro scout band before the judges in the march past competition. Young Rumblers, placed first in the men’s division, with Mayaro Boys and Trinrico Sports, second and third, respectively.
Maintenance United took the Women’s March Past crown for the second straight year, with Bomb Squad and Newlands/Guayaguayare, placing second and third berths respectively.
