‘Kaiso Kaiso’ — the last hurrah at the Savannah

The event which is scheduled for the Queen’s Park Savannah tomorrow at 8 pm will feature the hit calypsos from 1956 to 2006.

Reigning National Monarch Luta together with former calypso monarchs Chalkdust, Gypsy, Cro Cro, Singing Sandra, Shadow, Denyse Plummer, Sugar Aloes, and Duke are just some of the big names on the cast.

Other top artistes are Superior, Striker, Bomber, Drupatie, Rikki Jai, Protector, Poser, Explainer, Trinidad Rio, Funny, Brigo, Composer, Brother Mudada, Pink Panther, Valentino, Almanac, Count Robin, King Wellington, Baker, De Fosto and All Rounder.

This will be the last time these calypsonians perform on the big stage at the Queen’s Park Savannah as the venue is scheduled for reconstruction.

Guest performers at this event are popular soca boy band Surge, and Regeneration Now. Music for this mammoth show will be supplied by Kelly Green and Harmony while Extempo champion Sheldon John and Bill Trotman are billed as the presenters.

According to TUCO’s president Michael “Protector” Legerton, “The World Calypso Company was established to take calypso to the world. Our organisation (TUCO) is Trinbago while the WCC will be international.

“Kaiso Kaiso might be the last hurrah for the Queen’s Park Savannah but we intend to take it (Kaiso Kaiso) across Trinidad and Tobago. We intend to take it to South, East and Tobago and if all goes well we will trim the cast and move out into the region.”

Kaiso Kaiso is sponsored by the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs.
